MAHJONG Promo video
Holy Mahj, based in Charleston, South Carolina, hosts Mahjong game nights where locals teach groups of people how to play the tile game Mahjong. The goal of this project was to capture a typical game night to promote an upcoming league night, and showcase what attendees can expect during these events. Approximately 20 people attended the event, and the clients wanted both photos and videos to highlight the instructional aspect and enjoyment of the game night.
objective
The clients provided examples of content that resonated with the vibe they wanted to capture, focusing on a variety of gameplay shots, close-ups of tiles, and videos of people playing the game. The content was aimed at promoting upcoming league nights and illustrating the instructional offerings of Holy Mahj.
pre-production
Setup
Upon arrival, I set up my iPhone for a time-lapse of the initial game setup and documented how they prepare for teaching the game.
Top-Down Shots
I filmed a top-down shot that could be used with a voiceover later to explain the rules and gameplay.
Candid Photography
The shoot was intended to be candid, so I used a telephoto lens to keep my distance and capture natural interactions without disrupting the gameplay.
